Getting started
What is Disruptive Templates?
A shop selling resume templates that arrive already written. Each of the 498 job titles has its own file, with the work experience bullet points drafted for that role at four levels of experience, a matching cover letter, and the formatting rules that keep the page readable by recruiter software.
How is this different from a free template?
A free template gives you an empty layout. This gives you the sentences. The layout is the cheap part of a resume and the writing is the expensive part, so we sell the writing and treat the layout as something that should simply not get in the way.
Where do I start if I have never written a resume?
Find your job title, take the Career Kit, and open the quick start guide first. It tells you what to change and in what order. Then work through the bullet library, keeping the tier that matches your experience and deleting the rest.
How do I find the right job title?
Search the catalogue, or filter by industry, field or career level. Match the title on the advert rather than the one on your contract, because that is the title the employer is screening against.
What if two titles both look right?
Read the first two bullet points on each. Whichever describes the work you actually want to be hired for is the one to take. If both genuinely apply, the Profession Bundle usually carries them together.
Do I need any software before I buy?
No. The editable files are .docx, which opens in Google Docs in a browser for free. Word and Apple Pages work too. The guides are .pdf and the tracker is an .xlsx.
How long does the whole thing take?
Most people finish the resume in an evening. The writing is done, so what is left is replacing bracketed numbers, deleting the experience tiers that are not yours, and exporting to PDF.
Can I look at a sample before buying?
The images on each product page show the structure of every file in the package. The formatting rules we follow are described in full on the how it works page, so there are no surprises in the download.
Is this suitable outside the United States?
The writing and structure work anywhere that expects an achievement based resume, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland and Australia. Two things change by country: whether a photo is expected, and whether the document is called a resume or a CV. Both are one line edits.
I am a student with no work history. Is this for me?
Yes, and the one year tier of the bullet library is written for exactly that. It leans on coursework, placements, volunteering and part time work rather than a career, and the guide explains what to put where the experience section would normally sit.
Packages and pricing
What are the three packages?
Single Template at five dollars is four files: the resume in one and two page versions, the cover letter and the quick start guide. Career Kit at twenty nine is sixteen files, adding the bullet library, keyword bank, LinkedIn text, interview questions and the rest of the hunt. Profession Bundle at fifty nine is a full kit for your role plus up to four related titles.
Why is the Career Kit the one you recommend?
Because the bullet library is the part that does the work. It carries every bullet written at one, two, five and ten or more years, which is what turns a layout into a finished page. Everything else in the kit exists for the weeks after the resume is sent.
Is the Single Template a stripped version?
No. It is the same resume, written the same way, in both lengths. What it leaves out is the material around it: the alternative bullet tiers, the keyword bank and the interview and outreach files.
How does the Profession Bundle choose the related titles?
By how close the work actually is, not by alphabet. A registered nurse bundle carries titles a nurse realistically applies for. The exact list for your role is shown on that product page before you buy.
Why does the bundle say up to four?
Because coverage is still being written for some roles. Your own kit is always there, and the related kits are included as they are finished. The product page shows what is in yours today rather than what we hope to add.
Can I upgrade later?
There is no upgrade path inside an order, so buying the Career Kit after a Single Template means paying for the kit. If you think you might want the writing, take the kit first, because the gap is twenty four dollars and the overlap is four files.
Is the price the same for senior roles?
Yes. Five, twenty nine and fifty nine dollars whether the title is warehouse operative or chief financial officer. The research and writing behind each one takes the same amount of work.
Do you run sales?
Occasionally, and any code goes in the discount box on the product page or at checkout. We do not run a permanent fake discount, so the price you see is the price.
Can I buy for someone else?
Yes. Buy it in your name and send them the files. That is a gift rather than redistribution, and it is fine under the licence.
What currency are the prices in?
United States dollars. Your bank converts at its own rate if you pay in something else, and the amount shown at checkout is the amount charged before that conversion.
Downloads
How quickly do the files arrive?
Straight away. The links are on the confirmation screen the second the payment clears and in your inbox at the same time. There is no processing queue and no human approval step.
Do I need an account to download?
No. Guest checkout gives you the links on screen and by email. An account is optional and simply keeps every order and link in one place if you would rather not rely on email.
How many downloads do I get?
Unlimited. There is no counter, no cap and no expiry date, so a failed download or a new computer three years from now is not a problem.
I have lost the email. What now?
If you made an account the links are in it. If you checked out as a guest, write to us with the order number or the email address you used and we will resend them.
The download failed halfway through.
Download it again. A partial file is the single most common cause of a document that will not open, and starting over almost always fixes it.
Can I download on an iPhone or Android?
Yes. The links work in any mobile browser and .docx opens in the Word or Google Docs app. Editing is much easier on a laptop, so download on the phone if you must and finish on a computer.
How do I open a zip file?
Double click it on Windows or Mac and it becomes a folder. On a phone you may need a files app to unpack it, which is one more reason to take the bundle on a computer.
Are the files virus checked?
They are ordinary Office documents and PDFs produced by us, with no macros in any of them. If your antivirus flags a .docx it is almost always the download being incomplete rather than the file itself.
Is anything shipped to me?
No. Everything is a digital download, so checkout does not ask for a postal address and nothing is printed or posted at any point.
Can I get the files in Google Docs format?
Upload the .docx to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs. It converts cleanly because the document uses standard styles rather than anything exotic. We do not send share links, so nothing depends on an account you do not control.
Editing the files
Which program should I edit in?
Whichever you already have. Word, Google Docs and Apple Pages all open the .docx correctly. Google Docs is free and works in a browser, which makes it the easiest route if you have no Office licence.
Will the formatting survive Google Docs?
Yes, because the document is a single column using standard heading styles rather than text boxes or tables. Check the page break after converting, since Docs measures fonts slightly differently.
How do I find everything I need to change?
Search the document for an opening square bracket. Every number and detail that has to become yours sits inside one, so the search jumps you from edit to edit.
Can I change the font?
You can, but Calibri is there for a reason: it is installed everywhere and parses cleanly. If you change it, stay with a common sans serif and keep one font for the whole document.
Can I change the colours?
There is almost no colour to change, which is deliberate. If you add an accent, keep it to headings and keep the body text black, because low contrast text is the first thing to disappear when a page is printed or parsed.
My text spilled onto a third page.
Delete the experience tiers that are not yours before anything else. That alone usually solves it. After that, cut the oldest roles down to one line each rather than shrinking the font below ten point.
How do I export a PDF?
Save as or download as PDF from the same menu you opened the file in. Do not print to PDF, which can rasterise the text and turn a readable page into an image the software cannot parse.
Can I add a section that is not there?
Yes. Copy an existing heading so the style comes with it, then write under it. Building a heading from scratch is what usually breaks the outline the parser reads.
Should I keep the summary at the top?
Keep it if you can make it specific in two lines. A summary that says driven professional seeking a challenging role is worse than no summary, and the guide shows what a useful one looks like.
I edited it badly and want to start again.
Download the original again. That is what the unlimited downloads are for, and it costs you nothing.
ATS and screening
What is an applicant tracking system?
The software an employer uses to receive and sort applications. It parses your file into fields, stores it, and lets a recruiter search the pile. Most large employers use one, and a page it cannot read properly arrives as scrambled fragments.
Does this template pass every ATS?
No template can promise that, and any site that does is guessing. What we can say is that the page follows the rules that avoid the known failures: one column, standard headings, real text, common font, no tables or text boxes.
Why do tables and columns cause problems?
Because parsers read in an order the layout implies, and a two column page can be read straight across, mixing your job title with a skill from the sidebar. One column removes the ambiguity entirely.
Do the systems really reject people automatically?
Rarely on their own. What usually happens is worse: your application is stored with half the fields empty, so it never appears in the recruiter search that would have found you.
How many keywords should I include?
Enough to be accurate, and no more. The keyword bank groups the terms this role is screened on so you can match the ones you genuinely have. Stuffing the rest in white text is an old trick that gets applications binned.
Where do keywords belong on the page?
Inside the bullet points where you did the thing, and again in a short skills list. A skills list alone tells a recruiter nothing about whether you can actually do it.
Should the file name matter?
It helps. Use your name and the role, for example jane-smith-registered-nurse.pdf. Some portals show the file name to the recruiter before anything else.
Do headers and footers cause trouble?
Yes. Contact details in a header are frequently dropped by parsers, which is why your name, phone and email sit in the body of the page in these templates.
Should I include dates as months or years?
Month and year, for both start and finish. Year only reads as an attempt to hide a gap, and some systems cannot calculate tenure from it.
Is a photo a problem?
In the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Ireland, yes. It invites discrimination claims and many systems strip it anyway. Where a photo is expected, in parts of Europe and Asia, put it at the top rather than beside the text.
Writing your resume
How much of the wording should I keep?
Most of it. The bullets are written as actions and outcomes, and rewriting them in a more comfortable voice usually turns them back into a duty list, which is the thing they were written to avoid.
What if I do not have a number for a bullet?
Count something. How many, how often, how large, how fast. If nothing is countable, describe the scope instead: the systems, the sites, the team. A bullet with no scale reads like a job description.
Which experience tier should I use?
The one that matches the level you are applying at, not the years you have served. Someone with eight years applying for a step up often reads better from the five year tier with two ten year bullets added.
How far back should my history go?
Ten to fifteen years of relevant work. Older roles become one line each, and anything irrelevant comes off entirely. Nobody is impressed by completeness.
How do I handle an employment gap?
Name it briefly and move on. A line that says career break, study or caring responsibility with the dates closes the question. An unexplained hole invites the reader to invent a reason.
I am changing careers. What do I change?
Start from the one or two year tier, keep the achievements that transfer, and use the keyword bank to describe them in the language of the new role. What you did matters less than whether the reader recognises it.
Should I include every job I have had?
No. Include what supports the application. A bar job from twelve years ago belongs on the page only if you are applying for something where it is relevant.
How do I describe a promotion?
One employer, two titles, with the dates for each. It shows progression in a way that two separate entries at the same company never does.
Do I need a skills section?
A short one, with the hard skills and tools you can be tested on. Leave out communication, teamwork and hard working, which every applicant claims and no recruiter believes.
Should I tailor it for every application?
Change the summary line and the top two bullets to match the advert. That is fifteen minutes and it is the highest return edit you can make. Rewriting the whole page each time is not worth it.
Cover letter, LinkedIn, interviews
Do I still need a cover letter?
When the advert asks for one, yes, and it is read more often than people assume for smaller employers. Where it is optional, a short specific one is still worth the fifteen minutes it takes to adapt.
What do I change in the cover letter?
The company, the role, and the one line explaining why that employer. Everything else is written to match the resume, which is the point of it arriving with the resume rather than separately.
How long should the cover letter be?
Three short paragraphs on one page. Anything longer competes with the resume for attention and usually loses.
Should my LinkedIn match the resume exactly?
It should not contradict it. Same titles, same dates, same employers. The LinkedIn text in the Career Kit is written slightly more personally, because it is read by a human rather than parsed.
Do recruiters check LinkedIn before calling?
Very often, and a profile that says something different from the resume is a reason not to make the call. Fixing the dates takes five minutes and removes the risk.
What is in the interview questions file?
The questions this specific job title actually gets asked, with a note on what a strong answer has to contain. It is not a script, because a memorised answer is obvious. It is a list of what to prepare.
How do the recruiter outreach scripts work?
They are short opening messages for cold and warm approaches, written to be answerable in one line. Long introductions from strangers do not get replies.
When do I use the salary negotiation script?
When the number arrives, not before. It covers what to say, what to ask, and the moments where saying nothing is the stronger move.
What is the reference request kit for?
Asking well. It covers who to ask, how to ask, and what to send them so they can write something useful quickly rather than a paragraph confirming you existed.
Why is a resignation letter in a job hunt kit?
Because the hunt ends somewhere. It is short, professional and impossible to misread, which is exactly what you want on a day that is already awkward.
Why us
Why buy this instead of using a free template?
Because the layout was never the hard part. A free template hands you an empty work experience section, which is the thing that takes the weekend. Here that section arrives written for your job title at four levels of experience.
Why not use a resume builder?
Builders are good at layout and bad at content, so you end up typing the same sentences you were stuck on, into a form, usually on a subscription. This is one payment and the sentences are already there.
Why not just ask an AI to write it?
Ask a general model for a resume and it produces fluent achievements you never had. The prompt pack in the Career Kit does the opposite: it takes your real history and puts it into this role language, which is the useful half of that idea.
Why not pay a professional writer?
If you can afford several hundred dollars and a week of turnaround, a good writer is excellent. Most people cannot, and the gap between that and a blank page is what this product fills.
Who writes these templates?
People who have hired into the role, working from the job adverts and the way those roles are screened. Each one is then checked against parsing rules before it is published.
Why are there 498 separate templates?
Because a nurse resume and a warehouse manager resume are not the same document with a different title at the top. They are screened on different things, so they are written differently.
What proof do you have that this works?
Buyers from our earlier trading period left over 1,200 reviews at a five star average, and more than 300 told us they were hired into Fortune 1000 companies. Those numbers are from that period and we have not adjusted them.
Why do you not promise an interview?
Because nobody can. Hiring depends on the market, the shortlist and a person you have not met. What a template can do is stop you being filtered out for reasons unrelated to your ability.
Why is there no subscription?
Because a resume is not a service you need every month. You need it for a few weeks, then you want it to leave you alone. One payment does that.
What happens if I am not happy?
Tell us. If a file does not open or is not what the page described, we will fix it or refund you. Ask within seven days, and approved refunds are processed in one to four weeks. The full position is on the refund policy page.
Licence and privacy
What does the personal use licence cover?
Your own job hunt, with no limit on applications, no time limit, and no restriction on how much you rewrite the files. It does not cover passing them on, selling them, or producing resumes for other people. The full terms are on the licence page.
Can I use these with clients?
Not on this licence. If you are a careers adviser, coach, outplacement firm or recruiter, write to us and we will arrange a commercial licence that actually covers what you are doing.
Can my partner use my copy?
Buy a second one. It is five dollars for a single template, and the licence is written per person so that the answer is simple rather than a judgement call.
Can I post the files on a forum to help others?
No, that is redistribution. Post the link instead, which helps them just as much and keeps you inside the licence.
Do you own what I write into the template?
No. Your history, your numbers and your wording are yours. The licence covers our writing, not your career.
Why is there a consent box at checkout?
Because the download starts the moment payment clears, and consumer law asks you to agree to that before it happens. The box is the record that you did, and it is one plain sentence rather than a buried clause.
What data do you keep about me?
The email address the order and the download links attach to, and the order itself. That is what is needed to deliver the product and support it afterwards. The detail is in the privacy policy.
Do you see my card details?
No. Payment is handled by the payment provider and card details never reach our servers.
Will you email me marketing?
Only if you ask for it. Buying does not sign you up to anything, and there is no mailing list requirement at checkout.
How do I ask for my data to be deleted?
Write to us with the email address you used. We will remove what we can while keeping the minimum an order record legally has to retain.
Nothing matches that. Try a shorter word, or clear the search to browse by category.
Still stuck? How it works walks through the whole process, and what is included lists every file in every package.
